It is estimated that 50% of the U.S. population avoid dental visits due to anxiety and fear. We strive to make every visit as comfortable as possible for our patients. However, some patients may still benefit from the use of Oral Conscious Sedation. Dr. Brown is licensed by the state of Tennessee to administer oral medication to sedate patients and relieve their fears and concerns. Longer procedures and multiple teeth can be treated with no discomfort or anxiety.
Sedation Dentistry allows the patient to get the care they want and need in a state of complete relaxation. Sedation is ideal for:
Occasionally teeth have fractures, large fillings, or decay which requires more coverage for strength and longevity. All porcelain crowns envelop the tooth to idealize the appearance and bite. With CEREC technology we have the ability to complete your crown in one appointment, eliminating the need for an impression or a temporary. When you leave our office you will have a permanent, bonded crown in place that will closely mimic your natural tooth in shade and appearance.
Missing teeth can cause other teeth to shift, reduce chewing efficiency, and affect speech as well as appearance. A missing tooth can often be replaced with an artificial root and then a crown or bridge placed over it. All natural teeth consist of a crown (the part which shows above the gumline) and a root (the anchor hidden below the gumline). When a tooth is missing a dental implant takes the place of the missing root. Once an implant is placed, a prosthetic crown can be fabricated to replace the natural crown. Dental implants are highly successful and long lasting. They are often the best option for single or multiple missing teeth.
A fixed bridge replaces one or more missing teeth and is not removable. The adjacent teeth are prepared for a crown and a bridge of several teeth connected together are cemented or bonded to place for long lasting beauty and function.
Porcelain veneers are a great solution to many esthetic problems. A veneer is a thin shell of life like porcelain designed by Dr. Brown and crafted by a ceramist in the dental laboratory. Veneers should meet the goals of the patient and add value to the the existing face, lips, and teeth. Veneers are appropriate for closing spaces, correcting dark shades, and minor repositioning of crowded teeth.
Everyone enjoys the benefits of a beautiful, white, gleaming smile. Soft drinks, wine, coffee, staining foods, and age darken teeth and diminish attractiveness and self esteem. Our office offers both in office power bleaching and convenient home whitening trays. In office bleaching is completed within two hours. Take home whitening trays are a lower cost treatment and may be worn while sleeping or one hour per day for an average of two weeks. Both methods can vastly improve most patients' smiles quickly.
Composite veneers (bonding) is a less expensive, yet attractive method to restore a smile, often with little or no tooth preparation. Its longevity is less than that of porcelain veneers and on average will need to be replaced about every eight years. Bonding can be used to change the shade of certain teeth, to close gaps, or to cover defects in enamel.
In our continuing effort to provide the best technology for our patients, we are proud to use the new Schick 33 digital x-ray sensor. This sensor provides higher clarity and resolution than standard digital x-rays. There are several other benefits to the use of digital radiography. Digital x-rays typically reduce the patient's radiation exposure by up to 80% over film x-rays. In addition to the health benefit, there are also diagnostic benefits. Digital x-rays allow us to make images lighter or darker, enlarge images, and make enhancements to color and texture. These features enable us to be more accurate in diagnosis and detection of oral disease.
